THE ATTACK OF THE GRANNY BOOMERS

Yesterday saw me giggling at the Parade Theatre (NIDA) Kensington, along with the who's who of Australian TV and theatre. We were there to see a rehearsed reading performance of THE ATTACK OF THE GRANNY BOOMERS. Written by renowned comedy writer John McKellar ("A Cup Of Tea, A Bex, and a Good Lie Down" , "...but I wou;dn't want to Live There" and many other Phillip St Theatre Productions, music by Jim Wallett and Musical Director Greg Crease.

There's something nice about trucking off to the Thee-ay-tur at 2:30pm on a Saturday. I was goggle eyed at my favourite stars..Michael Craig, the gorgeous Tina Bursill (does she age?) Victoria Nicholls (who clearly doesn't either)Ditto Toni Lamond and Margaret Fink,oh and Andrew McFarlane. The case was Saskia Smith (fresh from Bell Shakespeare, gee she was fabulous) Rick Lau...never seen him before but he was fresh and magical, sings as well as he acts and that's saying something. John Derum, Tony Taylor, Jane Harders, Nancye Hayes, and Maggie Dence were the cast of this funny funny piece about a group of seniors at at Retirement Village on the Leafy North Shore. McKellar is a funny man, and I have to say that because he's written my show THE ELLA BRICK ROAD, coming to a stage next year. Crease on the piano was marvellous, and I have to say that too because he wrote the music for my show.

Yesterday's performance was to attract investors/backers/producers. The usual suspects. I thought it was fabulous. I loved it. Send your money to THE GREY POWER MUSICAL or call 0439 672 213.

Later, I was at the Statement Cabaret Lounge to see the final production of the year. STOCKING STUFFERS AND TURKEY PLUCKERS. Andrew Benson is clearly a talented performer. And if you think I love everything I see, I don't, but I really don't want to become a critic. That doesn't mean you should hold back though. What did you think/

Maureen Elkner is SENSATIONAL!

Last Thursday night I was at SLIDE nightclub on Oxford Street in Sydney seeing Maureen Elkner in her Dusty Springfield tribute show. WOW! What an entertainer. I love this venue. I have seen Maria Venuti and Mary Kiani there, and they were both fabulous. Truly entertaining, and I was thrilled to see Maureen Elkner. She rocks, she bops and thrills the audience. What an entertainer! I was enthralled from the first note, sang along much of the time and was wanting more right till the very end. The food at SLIDE is terrific, and what a great chance to see a terrific performer and have a great night out. She's on for two more THURSDAYS so please get along and see her. Support this performance, you won't be disappointed. The audience was full of Dusty and Maureen devotees and soon to be devotees!

THE HOLLOW or MURDER AFTER HOURS was written in 1946.
The Plot : As a group of friends gather for a weekend break in the country, Jon Cristow finds himself trapped between his wife, mistress and a vengeful ex-mistress. Soon somebody is dead.
History of The Hollow by John Curran, Editor of the Agatha Christie Newsletter: Agatha Christie's Autobiography recalls "It came to me suddenly one day that The Hollow would make a good play". She was proved right when the very first performance opened at the Arts Theatre, Cambridge on February 5th, 1951. It moved swiftly to the Fortune Theatre for a few months and then transferred to The Ambassadors Theatre in the West End where it ran for almost a year. Dame Agatha missed the West End premiere as she was actually in Iraq when the curtain went up on St. Agatha's Day but the critics gave her the sort of reviews every dramatist dreams of:

Breathing Space until October 28

BREATHING SPACE is the first in a trilogy of exhibitions by talent Sydney artist Nola Diamantopoulous.
BREATHING SPACE is on at the Artereal Gallery, Darling Street Rozelle just down from Herbie's Spices until 28th October.
Artist Statement

Breathing Space is the first part of a trilogy, an exhibition which will continue with Inhale in 2007 and Exhale in 2008.

Breathing Space explores the invisible life force that surrounds us at a time where we are mere ideas of Being. A time I call the ‘preparatory void’, where the act of involuntary breathing is yet to occur.

My models are female. We interact. We talk, laugh, share lengthy pauses, exchange views and breathe together in the same space. The sculptures encompass the model’s energy at that moment in time. Perhaps the model’s emotion and energy combines with mine. Either way it is a charged experience for both of us. As I sculpt their heads, where the idea of Being exists, an expression of anticipation emerges.

I begin to sculpt the movement of the hair in an attempt to feel the air, the invisible life force that is the Breathing Space, which moves around the heads.

It is in this instance, the realisation comes… although I can capture the illusion of Breathing Space, through the movement of the hair, I cannot contain it. It continues to move around the work, a controlled and transubstantiated vital energy, a circulation of breath and creation, both mental and seminal.

By now, I have no desire to capture it. Any attempt to do so would be akin to holding ones breath, a cessation of the moment and the energy. Breath dies the moment we capture it. We exhale moments after we inhale them. Life begins and ends within these moments. We Inhale (exhibition 2007), by receiving the Divine Gift…we Exhale (exhibition 2008), thus returning the Divine Gift to its Owner. The Gift remains imperishable.

The concept of ‘Breathing Space’ is further explored with the addition of an auditory element. The actual sound of the human breath is accompanied by wind instruments. By now, the singular action of individual breathing gains its plurality and position in the Cosmos. The all-encompassing forces of nature and the artwork become one, replenishing the space, the Breathing Space…
